Vintage eBay Wins Of The Week - 3/20/2013

Bidding is addictive. My fellow vintage addicts know what I mean. Each week I will post the items that I have successfully bid on and won on the adult playground we all like to call eBay. Feel free to comment if I outbid you or if you had any of these items on your Watch List. Apologies in advance if I outbid you in the last second. You can always make me an offer on them! Happy bidding and check back each week to see what I spent my hard earned money on!

Chalk Line - San Francisco 49ers Gold Miner Jacket

Sports will always be in my blood....as will vintage clothing. Combine the 2 and we have a recipe for something special ( not a disaster). Over the last few years I have come to love Chalk Line jackets with the all over back print on them. Yesterday I was the winning bidder on the below San Francisco 49ers Gold Miner Chalk Line jacket. I have only seen a few of these over the years so I jumped at the opportunity to bid on it. Luckily I was the winning bidder and this jacket should be at my house in a few days ( Don't let me down USPS!).

Graphic Graphics - The Happy Fisherman

In my 8 year vintage career, I have carefully sorted through well over 500,000 t shirts and sometimes a particular graphic will stop me in my tracks. One such graphic is the above shirt titled " The Happy Fisherman." I would like to meet the person who thought of this bizarre concept, sketched it out, and then mass produced it on thousands of t shirts. As much as I would like to wear this t shirt to see the looks on the peoples faces, I probably never will. For one thing, it doesn't fit me too well and most importantly it is a tad bit frightening! I just hope that that is a goldfish and not a paranoia! Happy vintage hunting in 2013! It is nice to be writing again on the blog.

Graphic Graphics - Harley Edition

Harley Tees stand the test of time for their bold colors, "interesting" subject matter, and kick ass skull graphics ( with the occasional naked woman thrown in there). This is what draws me in and forces me to cough up hundreds and hundreds of dollars to own them. Now if I were just a few inches shorter and  40 pounds lighter so I could squeeze into them... a man can dream!

Harley Americana Tees - Offensive or Collectable?

It isn't any secret that I have a passion for vintage t-shirts, especially Harley Davidson tees from the 1950's through the 1980's. As my friend Jimmy from Defunkd wrote about in a recent Blog entry, Harley dealerships have used offensive and vulgar advertising techniques to draw in potential buyers. In today's society, these racist and obscene graphics would not make it past the screen printing press without a lawsuit being filed! Recently, a vintage scavenger found a large Collection of Harley tees from an estate sale and has been listing them on eBay over the past few weeks. One such tee that really caught my attention was the "I'd Rather Push A Harley Than Ride A Rice Burner" tee, pictured below and for sale in my eBay Store. My fingers could not help but throw in a last minute bid to own this piece of Harley Nostalgia. Although it does portray discrimination against Japanese motorcycle manufacturers Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha, I looked at this purchase as traveling through a portal back in time to get inside the mindset of those who lived and breathed this Harley culture. I have never seen this print before and might never again, so it is this one of a kind novelty that makes me want to collect these rare pieces of Americana. In this case it is American Harley history that in recent years has caught the attention of buyers from all over the world. Be sure to check out the other Harley tees I have for sale in my store and also let me know your thoughts on this t shirt I have profiled here - Do you think it is racist and should be burned or do you see the value in preserving a piece of American Culture ( even if it is offensive and hurtful for some)?

I'm Gonna Rock Your World!

Growing up in the 90's meant that you were exposed to the sketch comedy show In Living Color. Being an avid eBayer and someone who loves in your face and vibrant t shirt graphics, I was happy to have come across this 1990's Jamie Foxx Shanaynay all over print t-shirt. I can still do a mean Shanaynay impression if someone asks me to! Classic childhood memory right here!

Stevie Nicks On The Chest to In The Flesh - The Kris D Story

The date was June 12th, 2011. A Day that will live on in infamy for 31 year old Kris D from the United Kingdom. Kris purchased the above Stevie Nicks 1989 concert t-shirt from the VintagePimps eBay store on this date. After paying via PayPal, it traveled thousands of miles from my quiet town in New Jersey to the bustling lights of the UK, and from there it was worn to a Stevie Nicks concert and record signing, where according to Kris, she absolutely adored his new (vintage) digs! How cool is that?! Maybe that is the circle of life that they were referring to in the Lion King.

Over the past month, we have chatted with our new buddy Kris about his love for Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac, and his passion for their music is easy to see. He also just recently bought a 1979 Fleetwood concert tee and a killer New Kids On The Block shirt from us ( Kris has the Right Stuff, Baby!). We asked him some Questions about the band that he loves, a singer that literally brings him to tears, and here are his answers.

Kris with Stevie Nicks herself, rockin' the vintage tee he purchased from VP's!

When and where did you meet Stevie Nicks: I met Stevie Nicks when did an album signing to celebrate the release of her new album 'In Your Dreams' at HMV record store, Oxford Circus London on Monday 27th June.

How long have you been a fan of Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac:  I'm 31 years old. I was brought up on Fleetwood Mac; I then discovered Stevie Nicks solo stuff in my early teens. It was stuff i'd heard, but not put the 2 together! I absolutely LOVE both!!!

Favorite song by Stevie/Fleetwood:  WOW, thats a hard one! Errr, ok, i'm gonna have to have a couple by each, I can't pick 1! Fleetwood Mac i'll say, 'Hold Me', 'The Chain' 'Did You Ever Love Me', 'Go Your Own Way', Hypnotized', 'Oh Diane'... Lol! Now for Stevie - 'Stand Back', 'Rooms On Fire', 'Edge Of Seventeen', 'Talk To Me'.

How many vintage concert tees of Fleetwood do you own: I've got 5, soon to be 7 original Fleetwood Mac concert tee's and 2 Stevie Nicks.

How many Stevie/FW Mac shows have to you been to: Unfortunately only 1; Hard Rock Calling in London on the 26th June 2011. I'm considering taking a trip to OZ next year to see her new tour! I'm hoping she's tour the UK too! And hopefully, maybe one day, a reunion with the Mac!

What did Stevie Nicks say to you when you met her: Well, I had this whole speech set out - I couldn't speak, I froze! Then started crying. Stevie said, 'Oh Darling, whats wrong', all I could say was I love you! She held my hand and said "thank you i'm touched." Then we had a picture.

Did she comment on the shirt? She looked at the shirt before she looked at me, then smiled and gave me a warm knowing smile.
