Stevie Nicks On The Chest to In The Flesh - The Kris D Story

The date was June 12th, 2011. A Day that will live on in infamy for 31 year old Kris D from the United Kingdom. Kris purchased the above Stevie Nicks 1989 concert t-shirt from the VintagePimps eBay store on this date. After paying via PayPal, it traveled thousands of miles from my quiet town in New Jersey to the bustling lights of the UK, and from there it was worn to a Stevie Nicks concert and record signing, where according to Kris, she absolutely adored his new (vintage) digs! How cool is that?! Maybe that is the circle of life that they were referring to in the Lion King.

Over the past month, we have chatted with our new buddy Kris about his love for Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac, and his passion for their music is easy to see. He also just recently bought a 1979 Fleetwood concert tee and a killer New Kids On The Block shirt from us ( Kris has the Right Stuff, Baby!). We asked him some Questions about the band that he loves, a singer that literally brings him to tears, and here are his answers.

Kris with Stevie Nicks herself, rockin' the vintage tee he purchased from VP's!

When and where did you meet Stevie Nicks: I met Stevie Nicks when did an album signing to celebrate the release of her new album 'In Your Dreams' at HMV record store, Oxford Circus London on Monday 27th June.

How long have you been a fan of Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac:  I'm 31 years old. I was brought up on Fleetwood Mac; I then discovered Stevie Nicks solo stuff in my early teens. It was stuff i'd heard, but not put the 2 together! I absolutely LOVE both!!!

Favorite song by Stevie/Fleetwood:  WOW, thats a hard one! Errr, ok, i'm gonna have to have a couple by each, I can't pick 1! Fleetwood Mac i'll say, 'Hold Me', 'The Chain' 'Did You Ever Love Me', 'Go Your Own Way', Hypnotized', 'Oh Diane'... Lol! Now for Stevie - 'Stand Back', 'Rooms On Fire', 'Edge Of Seventeen', 'Talk To Me'.

How many vintage concert tees of Fleetwood do you own: I've got 5, soon to be 7 original Fleetwood Mac concert tee's and 2 Stevie Nicks.

How many Stevie/FW Mac shows have to you been to: Unfortunately only 1; Hard Rock Calling in London on the 26th June 2011. I'm considering taking a trip to OZ next year to see her new tour! I'm hoping she's tour the UK too! And hopefully, maybe one day, a reunion with the Mac!

What did Stevie Nicks say to you when you met her: Well, I had this whole speech set out - I couldn't speak, I froze! Then started crying. Stevie said, 'Oh Darling, whats wrong', all I could say was I love you! She held my hand and said "thank you i'm touched." Then we had a picture.

Did she comment on the shirt? She looked at the shirt before she looked at me, then smiled and gave me a warm knowing smile.

Brenna Roth - Rockin' out with the PIMPS

Brenna Roth and Michael Mantagas

Having model/actress Brenna Roth in a photoshoot for VintagePimps signifies the start of some wonderful things to come. Brenna has been on the Hollywood scene for some time now, appearing in films such as Adventureland, Spider-Man 3, and the upcoming movie "The Tree of Life". She brings style and attitude to a brand that has brought tens of thousands of people killer vintage for the past 7 years! The shoot was done in Asbury Park on Tuesday May 24th by the talented photographer Craig Metz. We shot in the old casino area of the boardwalk, outside the Stone Pony nightclub, and in a retro Pinball Museum called Silverball Museum. If you are ever in Asbury Park, be sure to pay a visit.  The owner Ron is a really nice guy who let us enter at no charge, take some killer pics, and even get in some pinball action. Also, we want to thank make-up artist Ivette and assistant to VP's Autumn Z for their work on the shoot.

We intend to list the 60+ vintage tees we shot on eBay in the next couple of weeks, so be sure to have a look daily at our online store. In fact, we will be listing some killer pieces this Saturday, so cancel those plans and spend some time with us! Enjoy the below pictures of Brenna doing her thing, and we want to thank her again for hanging with us that sunny day on the boardwalk of New Jersey! It was a blast!

FUCK THE MONEY! - Vintage Rant by Jake Olson

When I was asked by my good friend Michael Mantagas (VintagePimps) to write for this blog, I said "Yes" with the intention of talking about vintage T shirts as an investment. Simply for the fact that Michael and I have seen these items substantially increase in value over the last couple of years; and they do offer monetary gain for the buyer in the long run. But the more I thought about why I buy them, the less logical this excuse seemed. It turned out that once I dug into the depths of my God forsaken, obsessive VINTAGE MIND, that the real reason we buy them is for the feelings they give us or the feelings they bring back, for use of a better term, it doesn't have a God Damned thing to do with the money, although the money I make from my store, Trouser Snake Vintage Gallery, supports my habit. Deep down, making money is just some bullshit excuse I use to rationalize the purchase of these items. My business happens to be my love and my hobby, whether any of the readers on this blog can equate to the feelings of wearing a vintage T shirt they purchased or not, I assure you they can equate feelings to nearly everything they purchase. It could be the feeling you get from that new car smell (Accomplishment), to the feeling you get from a twenty dollar blow job from some back alley whore (Validation). We buy things based on feelings, not on money.

Enough about why WE buy! To be honest with you, I only give a shit about why I buy and what I buy and the feelings I get from these shirts. You and your therapist can come up with the reasons you buy and the feelings they resurrect or convey. I'm currently collecting vintage skate T's from the 80's; skate T's from Powell Peralta, Santa Cruz and other skate companies that I used to own as a kid. These items bring back fond memories of NOT BEING IN SCHOOL or NOT WORKING; They bring back memories of NOT BEING ACCOUNTABLE; They bring back feelings of a lack of responsibility, and the freedom of being able to wander the streets aimlessly with four bucks in my pocket looking for my first piece of ass, all the while still knowing I had a loving home stocked with fruit roll ups, Sega games, and a genital caressing creepy Uncle to return to; no matter the outcome of my adventures. These items bring back feelings that I can still be reminded of today, minus the creepy genital caressing Uncle (who happens to be in prison!). It's funny the things we remember about our clothing when we come across something we haven't seen in a while, whether it's a skate T you might of been wearing when you got in your first fist fight, a prom dress you might have lost your virginity in, or the pair of jeans you were wearing when O.J. got acquitted. These items bring back feelings when we rediscover, hold and wear proudly.

There's another reason I buy vintage tees, or another feeling I should say that is a result of these purchases that I like to call "ENERGY.” I've also been collecting Vintage rock T's from the 70's and 80's. Most of the folks reading this blog are collectors that can relate to the feeling of energy that comes from opening a package containing a 1978 Rolling Stones concert T shirt or any piece of memorabilia "THAT WAS THERE.” You get my drift? IT WAS AT THE SHOW! It still has that energy on it; It reeks of the energy of 65,000 people inside a screaming venue from some night 35 years ago. This clothing gives off the feeling of a night of fun, sin, heavy drinking, drug use, sex and all the chaos absorbed from the original wearer three and a half decades afterwards. I'm addicted to this ENERGY! These objects have experience, and to be able to strap all that experience gathered over the years on your back and take it with you on a night out is a very powerful thing. It's great to wear and be able to talk about something that has a story, a history and just an overall vintage aura and patina radiating from it. Below are a few examples of some the items I'm collecting or currently have for sale at Trouser Snake Vintage Gallery and all of them give me certain feelings. Next time you think about purchasing a vintage T or any item of clothing  for that matter, think about the feeling it's going to give you, or the feeling you want to give off to others, because that's really what you're buying. SERIOUSLY, FUCK THE MONEY!

The Power of 3D...EMBLEM

I think that it is safe to assume that if you are an eBay junkie like myself, you are well aware of the 3D Emblem t-shirt craze that has swept over the marketplace over the past 2 years. I myself am a big fan of these t shirts, especially the Harley, Truckers Only, and Hog inspired prints. Whenever I get my hands on these, I know that I can get some decent prices for them on auction, or if the size is right (L), I keep it for myself!

Once a week or so I do an eBay 3D Emblem search. What is the big appeal of these tees? Well, in my opinion, it is the amazing fabric, the black color, the softness level, and the killer prints. International buyers really eat these up, especially in Malaysia and Thailand. Below are 3 samples of the nearly 100 3D Emblem vintage tees currently on ebay. Click here for the complete selection of vintage 3D Emblem tees.
