Pine Tar Game - Bad For Your Health, Good for your Chest

Any true sports fan knows what happened on July 24, 1983. That was the night of the now infamous "Pine Tar Incident" at Yankee Stadium involving George Brett. Our good friends at Wyco are selling the above t-shirt which glorifies this historic event. If you don't know what happened, let me recap for you:

Playing at New York's Yankee Stadium, the Royals were trailing 4-3 with two outs in the top of the ninth and U. L. Washington on first base. In the on-deck circle, George Brett was heard remarking to a teammate, "Watch this baby fly" as he shook his bat. He then came to the plate and connected off Yankee reliever Rich "Goose" Gossage for a two-run home run and a 5–4 lead.

As Brett crossed the plate, New York manager Billy Martin approached rookie home plate umpire Tim McClelland and requested that Brett's bat be examined. Earlier in the season, Martin and other members of the Yankees had noticed the amount of pine tar used by Brett, but Martin had chosen not to say anything until the home run. One of the Yankees, third baseman Graig Nettles, recalled a similar incident involving Thurman Munson in a 1975 game against the Minnesota Twins. According to Nettles' autobiography, Balls, Nettles claims that he actually informed Martin of the pine tar rule, as Nettles had previously undergone the same scrutiny with his own bat while with the Twins.
With Brett watching from the dugout, McClelland and the rest of the umpiring crew inspected the bat. Measuring the bat against the width of home plate (which is 17 inches), they determined that the amount of pine tar on the bat's handle exceeded that allowed by Rule 1.10(b) of the Major League Baseball rule book, which read that "a bat may not be covered by such a substance more than 18 inches from the tip of the handle."
The baseball bat used by Kansas City Royals third baseman George Brett in the Pine Tar Incident on July 24, 1983.McClelland searched for Brett in the visitors' dugout, pointed at him, and signaled that he was out, his home run nullified and the game over. An enraged Brett stormed out of the dugout to confront McClelland, and had to be physically restrained by Kansas City manager Dick Howser and his teammates. (As one commentator stated, "Brett has become the first player in history to hit a game-losing home run.") Despite the furious protests of Brett and Howser, McClelland's ruling stood.
Due to fear that the bat would be taken to the American League office for inspection, Gaylord Perry then gave Brett's bat to the batboy who was chased into the clubhouse by security.

Holy Grail of Rap Tees - ERIC B. & RAKIM 1988 Tour

Are you sick of seeing this tee pop up on vintage blogs and sell on Ebay for hundreds of dollars? I hope not, because what you are looking at is the Honus Wagner of the vintage rap concert t-shirt market. The above vintage Eric B and Rakim 1988 tee, being sold by our hommie Stormcrow-Vintage, has developed a sort of urban legend over the past year. Here is what the ever so reliable Wikipedia has to say about this rapping duo:
Eric B. & Rakim were a hip-hop duo composed of DJ Eric Barrier and MC Rakim Allah (born William Michael Griffin Jr.).

Hailing from Long Island, New York, the pair is generally considered by hip hop enthusiasts to be one of the most influential and innovative groups in the genre. During hip hop's so-called golden age of the mid-1980s to the early 90s, the duo was almost universally regarded as the premier MC/DJ combo in hip hop. The two had a potent chemistry and each represented the height of innovation in their respective roles: Rakim was the master lyricist, an innovative talent who pushed the art of hip hop lyricism to new creative heights with his use of internal rhyme, sophisticated metaphors, and with a methodical-yet-effortless delivery; the duo's beats built on the hard-hitting sound of Run-D.M.C. by adding James Brown samples and Eric B's extensive scratching skills, setting the stage for hip hop's late-1980s/early-1990s infatuation with samples from the Godfather of Soul.
I happen to love this tee and really want one in my collection. Kyle from StormCrow has this tee listed at $500 or Best Offer. Take a look and show Kyle some American capitalism love...afterall, vintage is a life long investment. Enjoy, you vintage fools.

Blue Oyster Cult - What's the Sudden Fuss?

Recently, the above tee in my Ebay Store has been getting some serious interest. I have it listed for $150, and have gotten offers of $100 and $115 the last few days. Got me thinking, why the sudden fuss and interest? Don't get me wrong, this shirt is bad ass! I got it about 2 years ago, and absolutely adore it. It will be a sad day when this one is sold. Until that day, I will display it proudly in my store. So, please don't upset me and Buy It Now...well, I do need a new tv...so on second thought...
Read here for info on Blue Oyster Cult. Gain some knowledge on the band responsible for the classic hit " Don't Fear The Reaper."
**Update** Someone has bought this tee from me. Just sold it. I need to shed some tears...and then rejoice as I buy a flat screen.

I'm Dreaming of a Beatles Christmas

Wyco Vintage did it again! They are on a listing spree and it is hard to pick just 1 t-shirt to profile. Since I am a huge Beatles fan, I decided to do a small write-up on this amazing 1970's Beatles Christmas tee. They say a picture tells a thousand words, and this one is just an encyclopedia of knowledge. I know it is almost March, but Merry Vintage Christmas! May all your vintage tees be soft and thin, and may you wear them proudly.

Look What The Pimps Just Won..

Just won the above 9 tees on Ebay for my personal collection. Very excited. Here is a rundown of what I won:

2 Rolling Stones 1970s Tees
Willie Nelson Tee 1983
Metallica 1988 Tee
1977 Rod Stewart Tee
Jimmy Page Tee
Jackson's 1984 Tee
Crazy Micky 50/50 Cotton Tee
Exodus Tee 1987

Let me know if you like any of these. I would be willing to part with them for the right price, and right buyer!

Grateful To Be Dead

Grateful Dead tees will always stand the test of time, partially because of the amazing contributions that the band has made to the music industry, and partially because of the stand-out artwork they pumped out for over 35 years. Stanley Mouse was the mastermind behind Grateful Dead's artwork, and early Dead tees command a lot of money due to their scarcity. One such tee is the above Dead tee being sold by our main man Kyle at Stormcrow-Vintage. Have a look at this tee here, and be sure to browse the store. Oh yes, on a totally unrelated but fun side note, Kyle and myself would also like to recommend you see District 9. What a great movie!
